I’m excited to be touring Mindi Scott’s latest book Live Through This.

From the outside, Coley Sterling’s life seems pretty normal . . . whatever that means. It’s not perfect—her best friend is seriously mad at her and her dance team captains keep giving her a hard time—but Coley’s adorable, sweet crush Reece helps distract her. Plus, she has a great family to fall back on—with a mom and stepdad who would stop at nothing to keep her siblings and her happy.

But Coley has a lot of secrets. She won’t admit—not even to herself—that her almost-perfect life is her own carefully-crafted façade. That for years she’s been burying the shame and guilt over a relationship that crossed the line. Now that Coley has the chance at her first real boyfriend, a decade’s worth of lies are on the verge of unraveling.

And now for the usual questions:

What inspired the plot for your book?
I’ve actually written a letter for readers and posted it on my website explaining this in detail. (http://mindiscott.com/index.php/2012/07/18/a-letter-to-readers-why-i-wrote-live-through-this/)The basic gist, though, is that I put off writing this book for years because I thought someone with more distance from the subject could do it better. One day, I realized that that wasn’t the case and that I needed to write this book.

Why did you decide to write in this genre?
Contemporary Young Adult Fiction is what resonates most with me these days as a reader and is just a natural fit for my writing.

What is your writing process like?
I’m a slow writer and a picky writer. I usually think these through for MONTHS before I’ll actually write a scene.

What are you working on now? What’s next for you?
My critique partner, Michelle Andreani, and I are writing a novel together. She has a similar way of writing, which means that our progress is not as quick as either of us might prefer. We also have a blog that we (sometimes) update about our progress. http://we-have-words.com/

What do you do when you’re not writing?
I work a part-time job doing data entry. I also hang out as much as possible with my husband. We love to spend time at the beach or out on the water with our boat during the summers.

Who do you like to read?
Courtney Summers, John Green, Carolyn Mackler, Megan McCafferty, Gayle Forman, Stephanie Perkins, Denise Jaden, David Levithan, Sarah Dessen, CK Kelly Martin, Nina LaCour, Trish Doller, Mandy Hubbard, Sonya Sones. I could go on and on and on. 🙂
