I’m not a good cook, my meals are basic to say the least, and I leave baking to the experts. That is, until this time of year.
So, yesterday I made a couple of apple crumbles (now in the freezer).
Today, I bought the ingredients for Chocolate Biscuit Cake (not easy because I need some things you can only buy in the UK – though there is a shop which stocks them), lucky for me (and our visitors) I found some pastry which doesn’t use milk products – phew, because last year I had to make my own pastry for the mince pies and let’s just say you could lose your teeth on them the pastry was so hard.
I used to make my own fruit cake, but now I just buy one (no dairy) and put marzipan and icing on it. Which saves time and angst…. I’m all for that.
So what about you, any particular things you bake/cook this time of year?
Keri Mikulski Says:
Yummy.
Cookies, cookies, and more cookies.
Sara Hantz Says:
I’ve eaten so much chocolate biscuit today I feel sick hahahaha
Christina Phillips Says:
I cook the turkey on Christmas Day, what more am I expected to do?!?!?
Love the sound of that Chocolate Biscuit cake. YUM!
Sara Hantz Says:
It’s so yummy, Christina, that the rest is now in the freezer in a container that is taped up to stop anyone (aka me) going in there and taking some, or there’ll be none left for our visitors!!!
Vanessa Barneveld Says:
Apple crumble–mmm! I’m going to do a test run of the lamb roast I want to make on Christmas Day. I have guests and the last thing I want to be is the grinch who burnt lunch. And because it’s probably going to be hot on the big day, I’m making pannacotta a day in advance.
Sara Hantz Says:
The worst thing that happened to me one Christmas Day was that the hob blew just as I was starting to do the veg….. I didn’t even realise straight away…. but it was all ok (just very al dente veg
…. and it did mean lots of takeaways after that until it was fixed…. and I’m all for no cooking, so a win/win situation.
Sara Hantz Says:
Just raided the mince pies….
